Olaplex

Olaplex: The revolutionary hair repair system

The Olaplex hair products revolution began in 2014 in Santa Barbara created by entrepreneur Dean Christal who had teamed up with a University of California Chemistry Professor and his research scientist colleague. We love products that solve hair problems and Olaplex is arguably the most significant one to be launched in the last 5 years. We have been an Olaplex salon since its launch in the UK and it is our most popular in salon treatment for highlighted, balayage & bleached hair clients. Its patented ingredients stop the breakage of chemical bonds that are are essential to the structure and elasticity of your hair. This means you can maintain the condition of your hair following a lightening service. Olaplex has since launched a wider range of products as the brand continues to go from strength to strength.

The Olaplex hair products revolution continues to grow with the range expanding now to include a shampoo, conditioner and styling products. These products all contain the essential Olaplex di-sulphide bond forming ingredients.

What’s so special about Olaplex? The research scientists were asked to solve to the problem of hair chemical bond breakage during hair lightening services.  What they managed to do was invent an entirely new molecule that did just that in a way that was far more effective than had ever been achieved before. What started from nothing became a hair industry revolution when celebrity colourist Tracey Cunningham began using it on her hollywood A-list clients and news spread across the industry about this game changing new product.

What does Olaplex do?

Olaplex is the original bond builder that restores damaged hair by using a single patented ingredient – Bis-Aminopropyl Diglycol Dimaleate. The bonds of the hair are repaired and the hair is left healthy and shiny. Hair can be damaged in many different ways, and Olaplex can help rectify that damage. For example, Olaplex can repair hair damaged by heat, chemicals, colouring, and UV rays, just to name a few.

How does Olaplex work?

Olaplex repairs your hair right down to the molecule. Bis-Aminopropyl Diglycol Dimaleate improves strength, repairs damage, and provides protection for future chemical services. On a more scientific level, when the disulfide bonds in the hair break, a sulfur hydrogen molecule has the opportunity to pair with oxygen molecules and create a sulfate group, this sulfate is an acid that strips the hair of protein. Olaplex prevents this by pairing with the sulfur hydrogen molecule quicker than the oxygen molecules, stopping the sulfate from being created, and therefore reducing hair damage.

Is Olaplex good for curly hair?

Olaplex is fantastic for curly hair! As curly hair gets damaged, it often loses its shape and texture, looking dry and unhealthy. Olaplex will restore curl to your hair, especially when you use the best selling No.3 which is the most beneficial for repairing bonds in damaged, curly hair. Olaplex helps to return your hair to its natural state, bringing that gorgeous definition back to your curls.

Is Olaplex only for blonde hair?

Many people think that Olaplex is purely for chemically lightened hair due to the damage that bleach can cause, but this is a misconception. Although hair that has been lightened will perhaps benefit more from Olaplex, hair damage from any colour treatment, heat or the environment will also benefit from Olaplex. For example, if you get your hair coloured regularly, there is likely to be a lot of colour damage to your bonds and thus, Olaplex can step in and help. So in short, no – Olaplex is for any hair colour.

Is Olaplex worth it?

Absolutely! Olaplex is now widely used in the hairdressing industry and recommended by many professionals due to its brilliant results, it is a high end product and its price point reflects this – all products retail at £26. It is a very concentrated product and you only need to use a small amount. When Olaplex restores the bonds of the hair, hair becomes stronger, healthier, softer, and less vulnerable to further damage. If you have strong and healthy hair already, and there is not much damage from heat or colour treatment, then this probably isn’t the product for you as it may weigh down your hair. The Olaplex needs the damaged bonds to be there in order for the process to work, and when it has the opportunity to repair these damaged bonds, it works absolute wonders.
